Moving Within Los Angeles

Did you know that on average a person will move over 11 times in their lifetime? A lot of these generally occur early in life as people tend to live in a few apartments before moving into their first home. Nowhere is this more true than in a city like Los Angeles, where dreams are made or broken overnight. You’ll be living in a shared apartment with six other starving actors one day and moving into your very own one place the next. There are a lot of potential regions to consider when finding the best place to live in LA. Whether the arts district is your scene or Venice Beach is the place to be, we’ve got some advice about moving within Los Angeles that just might save you some time and money.

How to Move Within LA County

With an area of 4,751 square miles there are a whole lot of potential places to live in Los Angeles County. Each region is a bit different than the last and there is certainly no lack of diversity. From taking a hike up by Griffith Park to riding the Ferris wheel on the Santa Monica pier, you can always find something entertaining to do. So how does one decide what neighborhood is best for them? Think about the obvious, like if you already have a job in place, that should help determine a radius to begin researching.

Here are some things to consider when moving within Los Angeles:

  • How far do you want to travel from home to work and back again?
  • How will you be traveling, car or bus?
  • What do you like to do with your spare time?
  • What is your favorite place to eat?
  • Where are your friends/family located?

Answering these questions will assist you in finding the ideal location. If you’re not the type of person who enjoys spending time in the car, you wouldn’t want to live in Hollywood while working in Gardena. Or say that your favorite restaurant is Ray’s Howlin’ Chicken, then you probably would want to move to downtown LA so you could easily get into line before everyone else. With all of the traffic in the city, you’ll often find that it’s more convenient to find things to do near your place.

When you’ve got an idea of where you’d like to move, determine what budget you’ll be working with. How much stuff will you be moving? Do you have a lot of large items that will require some strong movers to handle? Try to gather as much information as possible when planning out your move. If you are able to provide specific details when you request a moving quote, the company should be able to provide you with an accurate estimate.

Finding Affordable and Reliable Movers

It’s no secret that finding anything in this world that is both reliable and cost effective is not an easy task. We all know the old saying “You get what you pay for” in terms of service or product quality. That’s why research is crucial to finding a moving company that is affordable while still having a track record of reliable service to move you into a new apartment. The quickest way to get an unbiased opinion of your local movers is to read reviews from well known sources. Here are a few business directories and other websites that track customer feedback:

  • Google
  • Yelp
  • Angie’s List
  • Manta
  • Yellowpages

It’s important to filter the lower ranking reviews and see what specific issues customers experienced during or after their move. Then take a look at how the company responded to the negative feedback. It’s worth checking because they should be responding, you don’t want to do business with them if they’re not actively addressing these prior customers concerns. Lack of action speaks volumes so take advantage of learning about other people’s experiences before committing to a mover.

Household Moving Companies

Now, moving out of an apartment is one thing, but when you’re moving from one house to another, there is a lot involved. Without some planning, you could have a logistical nightmare on your hands. Look for a company that has household moving experience that you can trust to handle your belonging securely. Depending on the size of your house, you may require a moving company with a lot of trucks available the specific day you’ll be moving, to cut down on the amount of trips required. That’s very important when moving within Los Angeles considering all of the traffic can really slow the process down if your movers only have one truck to move a whole house. Read reviews and you’ll find the right moving company for the job.
